Yacht & boat insurance Turkey — FAQ

Is yacht insurance compulsory in Turkey?

Third-party liability insurance (tekne sorumluluk sigortası) is compulsory for motorised vessels in Turkish waters. Hull (kasko) insurance for the vessel itself is optional but strongly recommended. Marinas may also require proof of third-party cover before allowing berthing.

What does yacht and boat insurance in Turkey cover?

Turkish marine insurance typically includes: hull and machinery damage (kasko), third-party liability, personal accident cover for crew and passengers, loss of equipment and personal effects, rescue and recovery costs, and navigation in Turkish territorial waters. Wider geographic cover can be added.

What types of vessels can be insured?

We can arrange cover for sailing yachts, motor yachts, gulets, speedboats, RIBs, fishing boats and smaller leisure craft. We work with specialist marine insurers who understand the Turkish market.

Can foreign-registered yachts get insurance in Turkey?

Yes. Vessels flagged in other countries but spending time in Turkish waters can be insured by Turkish or international marine insurers. We will need the vessel registration documents, survey report (for older vessels) and details of the intended navigation area.

How is the sum insured calculated for a yacht?

Hull cover is typically based on the agreed value or market value of the vessel. We recommend using a recent professional survey for accuracy, as under-insurance can reduce claim payouts significantly.
