Health complication insurance Turkey
Medical tourism cover
for procedures in Turkey.
Coming to Turkey for surgery, dental work, hair transplant or cosmetic treatment? Health complication insurance covers unexpected complications so you're protected if something goes wrong.
What it is
Protection when medical treatment doesn't go to plan
Turkey is one of the world's top medical tourism destinations — attracting hundreds of thousands of international patients every year for everything from hair transplants and dental veneers to complex cardiac surgery and oncology treatment.
Most procedures go smoothly. But complications can and do occur — infection, secondary surgery, extended hospital stays. Health complication insurance (sağlık komplikasyon sigortası) covers those unexpected costs so you're not left with a large bill on top of an already stressful situation.
Many Turkish hospitals and clinics will ask for this policy before treating international patients. İkamet Sigorta sources it from Turkish-licensed insurers who specialise in medical tourism cover.

Health complication insurance — FAQ
What is health complication insurance in Turkey?
Health complication insurance (sağlık komplikasyon sigortası) covers complications that arise from medical procedures or treatments carried out in Turkey. It is specifically designed for medical tourists — people who travel to Turkey for surgery or other medical care — and protects against unexpected costs if something goes wrong during or after the procedure.
Who needs health complication insurance?
Anyone travelling to Turkey for medical treatment — including cosmetic surgery, dental work, eye surgery (LASIK), hair transplants, orthopaedic procedures and cancer treatment — should consider this cover. Turkish hospitals often recommend or require it for international patients.
What does health complication insurance cover?
Typical coverage includes: hospital readmission costs due to complications, additional surgery or treatment needed as a result of the original procedure, extended stay costs, emergency medical evacuation if needed, and some plans include repatriation. It does not cover the original planned procedure itself.
Is it the same as travel health insurance?
No. Travel health insurance covers illness and accidents that occur while travelling. Health complication insurance specifically covers complications arising from a planned medical procedure. If you are coming to Turkey for treatment, you need both: travel health insurance for general cover and health complication insurance for the specific procedure.
How long does health complication insurance last?
Policies typically run for 30–180 days from the date of the procedure. Some insurers offer cover for up to 12 months to account for complications that emerge after returning home.
How much does it cost?
Premiums depend on the type of procedure, the coverage amount and duration. Basic plans for straightforward procedures start around 1,500–3,000 TL. More complex surgical cover can be 5,000–15,000 TL. We compare options from Turkish insurers who underwrite medical tourism complication policies.
