If you’re based in Turkey and applying for a Schengen visa, travel insurance isn’t just a good idea — it’s a legal requirement of the application. Get it wrong and your visa will be refused.
What travel insurance do Schengen visa applicants need?
The official Schengen visa requirements state your travel insurance must:
- Cover medical expenses of at least €30,000
- Cover emergency repatriation to your country of residence
- Be valid for all Schengen countries
- Be valid for the entire duration of your trip
- Be issued by a company licensed in the country of residence (Turkey)
A foreign travel insurance policy (e.g., from your home country) may or may not be accepted. To be safe, use a Turkish-issued policy from our panel.
Which EU embassies accept which policies?
All EU embassies and consulates in Turkey accept travel insurance from SEDDK-regulated Turkish insurers. We only work with insurers that are routinely accepted across all EU embassies including:
- French Embassy, Ankara
- German Embassy, Ankara
- Italian Embassy, Ankara
- Dutch Embassy, Ankara
- Spanish Embassy, Ankara
- Schengen VFS centres across Turkey
How much does Schengen travel insurance cost?
Coverage for a typical 30-day trip to Schengen countries typically costs between €12–€45 depending on:
- Duration of cover
- Your age
- Single trip vs. annual multi-trip
- Coverage level (€30,000 minimum vs. higher limits)
Annual multi-trip policies are cost-effective if you travel to Europe regularly — often under €100/year.
Can I get annual multi-trip travel insurance?
Yes. If you travel to Schengen countries more than twice a year, an annual multi-trip policy is usually more economical than buying single-trip cover each time.
Note: Each individual trip under an annual policy typically has a maximum duration (e.g., 30 or 60 days per trip).
What if I travel outside the Schengen area?
We can issue policies covering:
- Schengen area only
- Europe-wide (including non-Schengen countries like UK, Turkey, Switzerland)
- Worldwide (excluding or including USA/Canada)
How quickly can I get my policy?
Same-day. Once you provide your travel dates, destination and passport details, we can issue the policy document within hours — in time for your visa appointment.
