Foreign plate insurance in Turkey is typically issued for periods of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Unlike some countries where policies auto-renew, Turkish foreign plate policies generally require active renewal. Letting them lapse — even for a day — means you’re driving illegally.
When should I renew?
We recommend starting the renewal process at least 2 weeks before your current policy expires. This gives time to:
- Compare quotes from multiple insurers
- Process any documentation changes
- Avoid any gap in cover
If you’re enrolled in our renewal reminder service, we’ll contact you at 30 days and 14 days before expiry.
What do I need to renew?
If your vehicle details haven’t changed:
- Your existing policy number
- Confirmation your passport is still valid
- Payment
If anything has changed:
- Updated vehicle registration document
- New/renewed passport (if yours has changed)
- Updated residence permit (if applicable)
Can I renew online or does it need to be in person?
We handle all renewals remotely. You don’t need to visit us or any insurer in person. Everything is done by WhatsApp, email and electronic document delivery.
Does renewing affect my Green Card?
When your policy renews, a new Green Card is issued. The old Green Card becomes invalid from the policy expiry date. Make sure you replace the old Green Card in your vehicle documents.
What if I’ve moved to a new address in Turkey?
Some insurers require your current address for the policy. Let us know if your address has changed so the policy reflects your current situation.
Can I change insurers at renewal?
Absolutely. Renewal is the perfect time to compare quotes across our panel and switch if a better rate or plan is available. We recommend doing this every year — loyalty doesn’t always pay in insurance.
What if my vehicle details have changed?
If you’ve imported the vehicle, registered it in Turkey, or made significant modifications, your insurance needs will change. Contact us and we’ll advise on the right product.
